Political and racial slur spray-painted on Ballantyne home's driveway

- It's a message this Ballantyne neighborhood will not permit. A spray-painted graffiti on a home’s driveway reading "Trump! Get out N******."

“I don't understand it. I don't understand why someone has that much hate in their body to write something like that," Red Maple Drive neighbor Mike Barnes said.

“It was just shocking. It's not something you expect to see this day and age or in an area like this where is just not common place to hear or see messages of hate like that," Red Maple Drive neighbor Jennifer Hill said.

The people living in the home are a respectable and well-established family originally from Nigeria.

FOX 46 Charlotte spoke to them off-camera about the message sprayed in their driveway and they told us they won't give the message any power.

"They messed with the wrong people in my own opinion. They are not getting the reaction they were expecting. They are not running for the hills and hiding by any means. What they've done is activated a community and say we don't approve, we're not behind this. We are going the other rout and spread the love"

On Red Maple Drive on Saturday, neighbors were putting up their own message of love and unity to counteract the negativity.

"Hopefully, when someone rides down here, this is what they see and not the other part. They actually wanted to keep it for a little while on the driveway to show that one, they aren't scared but two, they have this positive versus this little bit of negative," Hill said.

The family says they're thankful for the support.

"I’m glad that they don't see this as a negative on the neighborhood it's a negative on the person that did it," Barnes said.

"They can't be kinder or better neighbors and we just want them to know we all love you and we want to make sure you feel safe and comfortable in your home and we are all here to back to you up," Hill said.
