Possible attempted child abduction reported in Statesville

- The Statesville Police Department is currently investigating a possible attempted child abduction from the Statesville Soccer complex, news partner WSIC reports.

Police said on Wednesday, October 11, 2017 at about 6:45 p.m. a suspicious van pulled up alongside a 12-year-old child after being dropped off for soccer practice. 

The passenger of the van attempted to lure the child by telling him to get in the van. The child then ran down to the field to report the incident. 

The van was described as an older blue van, possibly a Ford in poor condition. The back driver’s side window was broken out. 

The suspect was a passenger sitting behind the driver. The suspect was described as a Latino male possibly 45 to 50-years-old. Medium build with salt and pepper colored hair. No description of the driver was available. 

After the child ran, the suspect vehicle quickly left the area.
