- A Burke County mailman caught in the act dumping important mail has been fired, according to the United States Postal Service.

Long View Police caught this postal worker trashing mail on surveillance camera and say they were able to recover more than 150 letters, including birthday cards and bank and financial statements.

Now, USPS is taking action. In a statement they told FOX 46:
The postal service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, behavior that jeopardizes the security of the U.S. Mail or threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to uphold. The person being investigated is no longer an employee of the postal service.

Long View Police say once federal charges come through they plan to pursue criminal charges on a state level for illegal dumping, and that all of the neighbors will get back their mail that was thrown away.
