Puerto Rican Cultural Society gets wish for donated plane to fly goods to the island

- Axamarie Gomez is looking for ways to get all these donated good to the island she grew up on.

"Sad to see your people telling you, that it's limited on water, that there are towns that are not getting medicine, there are babies that are not getting formulas, it's heartbreaking," Gomez said.

The heartbreak continued when she found out her first option to get the goods to Puerto Rico fell apart.

"We've got big hearts. We've got multiple churches. We need help," Gomez said.

On Wednesday, one call made her wish came true. A family from Florida, offered their private jet to fly the goods to Puerto Rico.

"About 2 hours ago I get a call that there is a private jet that wants to help and get donations down to Puerto Rico. I don't know what else to say but that's how it happened," Gomez said.

Gomez is grateful for this blessing and already has churches on the island ready to spread the needed goods.

The group stuffed the plane full, even taking boxes apart so more items could fit. Unfortunately, a lot of boxes had to come back but Gomez says this is a start.

"We need a bigger plane. We got people from all over, Concord, Charlotte, willing to bring donations. We just need transportation," Gomez said.

No, they aren't giving up either.

"We are going to lift our island up. We are going to get it up! It's not gonna stay like this. We've got people here and we love our island. We love our people and we are going to work here to get it. It doesn't matter how long it takes it doesn't matter what we have to do. We are going to rebuild our island," Gomez said.
