A rescue dog is fostering several puppies after their birth mom tragically passed away.
Layla was pregnant and at a high kill shelter before she was rescued by South Charlotte Dog Rescue. Members sent out an alert on their Facebook page in early April pleading with folks to foster Layla - and save her and her pups from being killed.
Soon after a family committed to taking Layla - saving her life.
On April 27, South Charlotte Dog Rescue posted Layla birthed 9 beautiful puppies at Ballantyne Vet Clinic. According to rescue members, Layla and her babies spent the night at an emergency vet hospital to be monitored.
The birth reportedly had some complications, as rescue members posted, "please pray for her and her babies during this critical time."
On Thursday, April 28 South Charlotte Dog Rescue posted sad news on their Facebook page. Sweet Layla did not make it through the night.
In their post they said, "She held on for these puppies to know they're safe and now South Charlotte and these puppies need your help. If you can bottle feed and can foster a couple please reach out to us. If you have past bottle feeding experience that'd be great!"
Later in the day workers stated another rescue dog, Ruby, had come to the rescue - feeding Layla's puppies.
Although Ruby took on the challenge - one new puppy did not make it.
