Quick thinking Morganton officers rescue baby locked in hot car

- Scary moments out of Roses Discount Store's parking lot Tuesday where a mother's 4-month-old baby was trapped inside the family's SUV.

According to the 911 call, the mother said one of her children accidently locked the door before she was able to get the infant out. Morganton public safety officers arrived on seen around 5 p.m. Tuesday to rescue the child.

After failed attempts to get the door open by using an unlock kit, the officers decided to break the window with an ASP baton.

The officers estimate in total the rescue probably took around ten minutes -- on top of the five minutes the baby was likely locked inside the car prior to them getting there.

They add the mother was thankful for their help and even though this incident was an accident police want anyone looking after children to be prepared for a situation like this.
