Rare "open" beehive found behind Virginia church

- A rare "open" bee hive was found behind a church in Chesterfield County, VA, according to Virginia Wildlife Management and Control.

Wildlife officials say this particular type hive was made by Italian honeybees. They extracted the hive from behind Victory Tabernacle, Church of God last week.

The bees were brought to a 12 acre property after they were removed where the hive will be cared for and monitored.

"The hive is lacking honey and the bees appear very weak, and then if everything goes well and we can get it back to where it needs to be," the organization wrote in a Facebook post.

The Wildlife officials say they wanted to remove the hive before Hurricane Michael hit the area, and say they will continue to watch the bees throughout the winter to ensure their survival.
