Red Cross opens shelters for families impacted by storms

- The Red Cross is opening up emergency shelters for families affected by Monday’s storms.

The American Red Cross Blue Ridge Piedmont and Asheville-Mountain Area chapters, with the help of emergency management partners, are opening shelters in Caldwell, Watauga and Wilkes counties for those impacted by the afternoon storms.

The locations being opened are as follows:

CADLWELL COUNTY

South Caldwell High School

WATAUGA COUNTY

Boone, N.C. 28607

 

WILKES COUNTY

N. Wilkesboro, N.C. 28659

 

“Shelters have been opened across several counties to provide safe refuge for anyone whose home may have been impacted by storms,” said Jerri Jameson, Regional Communications Officer, Red Cross ­­Western North Carolina Region. “Tornadoes and flooding are dangerous, damaging and can be deadly. We urge our neighbors to follow guidance from local emergency management officials.”
