CATAWBA CO., NC (WJZY) - A 69-year-old Catawba County man will spend nearly five years in prison for failing to register a change in address by a sex offender and his admission as a habitual felon.
Charles Patrick Hagans, of Conover, was given an active prison sentence of 58 to 82 months following his guilty plea on Tuesday, July 12, in Catawba County Superior Court.
Hagans left his registered address at the Royal Inn Motel in Hickory in the fall of 2015 but did not notify the Catawba County Sheriff’s Office within three days of the change as required by law.
Hagans also admitted his status as a habitual felon, which enhanced the sentence he was given.
Authorities said Hagans had prior felony convictions in Iredell County for indecent liberties with a child; Forsyth County for failure to register; and Catawba County for failure to register.
