Roads clearing after wintry weather creates dangerous conditions

- Charlotte-area roads may look fine now, but earlier today, the snow and sleet created a dangerous situation on the road.

The town of Harmony was chaotic on the ground as falling snow caused major trouble on the roadways.

"I was headed back home and I happened to see her on the side of the road," said Barbara Roberts, who helped a friend who was stranded by the weather.

She was on her way to pick up her kids from school after the snow forced Iredell County schools to close early.

They had to wait for a tow truck with snow and slush on the roads. Wreckers were in high demand Monday.

"A gentleman had stopped in front of her and impacted her. She didn't hit him, but it was enough for her to go off the road and get stuck,” Roberts said.

She wasn't the only one to get stuck.

"It was bad here. I think this is the worst I’ve seen it here."

Dylan Hopkins has lived in Harmony his whole life and even though there isn't enough snow to even cover the grass, the roads proved to be slippery, dangerous enough for Dylan to worry for his wife's safety and go pick her up from work.

"I almost couldn't get out of my driveway it was so slick. Down highway one, we were slipping and sliding. There were people in the ditches,” Hopkins said.

Drivers are encouraged to use caution as falling temperatures could cause more slick and icy conditions overnight and into the early morning hours on Tuesday.
