SPENCER, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Authorities in Rowan County are searching for a missing runner who disappeared Monday.
"It was cold last night. Temperatures have been down. It's been rainy and windy. Sun coming out today is helping," said Chris Richardson, Rowan County Emergency Services Battalion Chief.
He says search crews are in the air and on the ground looking for 66-year-old Rick Travis.
"On Monday, Mr. Travis is a runner. He was out on his daily run and at some point didn't report home. He suffers from cognitive impairment - mild dementia. So that brings us to today."
Richardson says Travis went missing on Sowers Ferry Road, a quiet neighborhood off Salisbury Avenue.
"We've increased our involvement as far as people with the search. We have 75 people involved in the search today."
Now, on day three, first responders say they need the community's help to find Rick.
"Now's the time we really need the community's help. At this point, we need them to check their property, their out buildings, and look around their homes to see if they see anything unusual. If they come into contact with Mr. Travis, call 911."
Travis was last seen wearing running clothes-- black pants and black shoes. He is 6 feet tall with gray hair, glasses, and weighs about 157 pounds.
