RV fire under investigation in Gastonia

- A mobile home caught fire in Gastonia Thursday afternoon, according to the Gastonia Fire Dept.

Fire depts. and EMS were called out to the 700 block of Watkins Rd. in Gastonia. The call came from a neighbor who heard an explosion and told first responders that a mobile home was on fire, according to officials.

Firefighters say heavy smoke could be seen in the Court Drive and I-85 area. It turned out to be a large camping recreational vehicle that was parked next to a barn.

There was a small amount of fire damage to the barn and no reported injuries.

The owner of the RV was not home at the time of the fire and it is a complete loss, according to officials.

The fire is under investigation.
