SCHP needs your help finding driver who hit young boy and drove away

- South Carolina Highway Patrol is looking a driver who struck a young boy and then fled the scene Thursday night in Lancaster.

Authorities say it happened about 8:25 p.m. on Evans Drive near Barnett Street. The pedestrian suffered "incapacitating injuries."

South Carolina officials are asking the public to be on the lookout for a 1994-2004 Ford Mustang with possible damage to the front and/or right front of the vehicle. The color and package of the car is unknown.

"For the kid to be laying there and gasping for air and he’s trying to grab onto me, trying to get up, man that tore my nerves up," said a neighbor, who didn't want his name used.

That man saw the boy, who's believed to be 12 years old, crossing the street with his sister, and then all of a sudden, he heard a sound he'll never forget.

"I heard this car and next thing I know heard the sound, and I seen the little boy flipping in the air."

Anyone with information is asked to call the South Carolina Highway Patrol at 803-896-9621, 1-800-768-1504, or Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC.
