CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A man is in custody after police say he beat a company security officer unconscious Friday night at the Transit Center in Uptown Charlotte.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, G4S Company Police Officer Jeffery Outen, 50, was working at the CATS Transit Center at 310 E. Trade Street in Uptown when he saw a man who was loitering on the property.
Outen reportedly asked the man, identified as 49-year-old Reginald Lewis Alexander, to leave several times and at one point he did leave, but he returned a shot while later. Outen then attempted to arrest the man for trespassing which is when a fight broke out.
Police say Outen was punched in the head multiple times, resulting in him hitting his head on the concrete sidewalk and rendering him unconscious while the Alexander continued to hit him.
Additional G4S police officers arrived and were able to arrest Alexander. CMPD responded to the scene as well.
Outen was transported to the hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries which included a broken nasal bone and a damaged orbital socket.
Alexander is charged with assault inflicting serious injury on a law enforcement officer.
CMPD is still investigating the incident.
