SLED investigating inmate death in York County

- The State Law Enforcement Division in South Carolina is investigating the death of an inmate at the York County Detention Center. 

According to officials, the inmate was found unresponsive in his cell Friday evening around 7 PM. Detention Center personnel performed CPR until EMS arrived at the jail, but were unable to resuscitate him.

The inmate is a 38-year-old male who was brought to the jail on Tuesday by Rock Hill Police for shoplifting & marijuana charges. The inmate was also charged with having contraband in his cell at Rock Hill P.D. 

It is standard procedure for SLED to investigate any death of an inmate, according to the sheriff's office.
