Statesville man arrested for statutory rape of child

The Iredell County Sheriff's Office has arrested a Statesville man on multiple charges after his 15-year-old daughter came forward claiming she'd been sexually assaulted.

Deputies said on February 12 a report was filed in Iredell County in which the teenager reported the abuse.

The victim was interviewed at the Dove House Children’s Advocacy Center.

During the interview the 15-year-old said her father, Michael James Bulkley, 38, had sexually assaulted her when she was between the ages of 12 and 13 years old at a residence along Blackwelder Road.

Multiple witnesses were interviewed during the case and evidence was collected to support the investigation.

As a result, warrants were obtained on March 2 for Bulkley for 10 counts of First Degree Sex Offense with a Child.

Bulkley was arrested on Wednesday, March 2 and taken before a magistrate and given a 750,000 secured bond.

He is currently in the Iredell County Detention Center.
