ROCK HILL, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Major cleanup is happening in Rock Hill following a Sunday night storm.
“We’re dealing with a major disaster,” said David Blair, with Ed’s Tree Service. “It’s a mess. It’s just a mess.”
Blair said the company has several requests for help with downed trees. The company planned to spend at least eight hours at a home on White Street, where two trees fell on the property.
The storm hit hardest in the East Town Neighborhood, a historic district within Rock Hill.
Jim Connell, a homeowner in that area, is glad his home wasn’t damaged and that no trees came down on his property. But he witnessed the damage at neighboring homes.
“There was tons of trees down in the neighborhood,” Connell said. “We’re in an old neighborhood so we have old trees. This is an historical area of Rock Hill. So the big trees get more damaged because they're approaching 100 years old.”
Homeowner Tom Hutto rents out a home on Spruce Street. When his tenants called him about two trees down in the backyard, he immediately came to take a look.
“They sent me some pictures, but the pictures don’t do it justice. This tree is massive,” Hutto said.
No serious injuries were reported as a result of the storm.
Neighbors said they haven’t since this much damage from a storm since Hurricane Hugo.
