LINCOLNTON, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Brian Wray, his fiance and his 13-year-old son at their Lincolnton home just before he says a tornado touched down Wednesday evening.
"It was over in a split second," Wray said. I lost some of my house and the car. We're still trying to process it."
Trees, branches and downed power lines causing a mess at his home. The damage so great a portion of Pressley Drive closed where his home sits.
Brain says he and his fiance at one point were both on the phone with 911 after the tree came crashing down.
He adds they briefly were trapped inside their own home due to live power lines being downed outside the door.
"God definitely had his hand on me yesterday because if I would've been a second later coming through the front door chances are I probably wouldn't be here giving this interview," said Wray.
Now they play the waiting game. Red Cross has helped and given them a place to say, but Brian says there's no telling when they'll be able to be let into their home which for him and his family is the scariest part.
"We are a family that lives paycheck to paycheck and when stuff like this happens it makes it hard, but it also makes it very thankful fo family and friends because they have really reached out, said Wray.
