String of car break-ins leaves neighborhood on edge

- The victim of a car break-in early Sunday morning off of Freedom Mill Rd. is sharing pictures of the suspect in the hopes that he will be brought to justice.

Gaston County police say the person in these pictures may be responsible for up to 14 car break-ins in the area over the last several days.

Many of these crimes took place in the Hickory Creek neighborhood.

“All three of his [cars] were broken into this morning. That car back here, that house right there had a car and there were like two or three down there broken into,” said Brett Rotenberry, a neighborhood resident and past victim of a car break-in.

Thankfully, none of their cars were touched this time around, but the same can't be said for April Santiz.

“Our car was missing and our car was stolen that night,” Santiz said.

Her Honda Civic was taken back on June 26. She just got it back this week as the police arrested a juvenile in connection with this case. She says unknown teens have started to frequent the area.

“Yes like some sitting out in my yard actually in my yard. Sitting in my window and there's a neighborhood group on Facebook and being saying they've been messing with people's yards and mailboxes,” said Santiz.

With the search on-going for the kid in this photo, both people saying these crimes definitely have their attention.
