Student shot near shopping center places 2 south Charlotte schools on lockdown

- A South Mecklenburg High School student was injured during a shooting Thursday morning, prompting two schools to go on lockdown.

According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police, the student was shot at a CATS bus stop near the intersection of Hamilton Park Drive and Brandon Forest Drive.

Police said the victim, Ashton White, 17, received a gunshot wound to the leg. The student was transported to Carolinas Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.

White told officers that he was shot by an unknown person. As a precaution, South Mecklenburg High School, located in the 8900 block of Park Road, was placed on lockdown, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools.
