Substation failure causes major power outage in Charlotte

- Thousands in the Charlotte area were without power Tuesday evening due to a substation failure, according to a spokesperson for Duke Energy.

As of 5:57 p.m. 353 people were still without power.

Affected areas include Plaza Midwood, Eastway and North Tryon Street, northeast of Uptown.

Duke Energy did not release the location of the substation. They said power should be restored by 7 p.m.
