Sunday marks 1-year anniversary of Rock Hill football team bus crash

Sunday marks the one-year anniversary of a tragic football team bus crash near the city of Hamlet that left 4 people dead.

Investigators say the bus was heading east on US 74 by-pass when the front left tire blew out, causing the bus to swerve into the median. The bus then struck the median guardrail before sideswiping a concrete bridge column.

Forty-six people were onboard the bus at the time, which had been heading to a scheduled football game taking place that evening at the University of God's Chosen. The players on the bus were from several colleges in the greater Rock Hill, SC area.

Brain Andre Kirkpatrick, 43, of Chester, NC, and occupants Devonte Gibson, 21, of Rock Hill, SC, Teto Hamilton, 19, of Pahokee, FL, and Darice Hicks, 8, of Rock Hill, SC, were killed in the crash.

Coach Crawford confirmed with FOX 46 Charlotte that there will be a balloon release at Carroll Park in Rock Hill at 4 p.m. Sunday.
