Suspect in attempted murder, multi-county manhunt appears in court

- The suspect who shot a man in Clover, leaving him in the hospital, then fled police setting off a multi-county manhunt appeared in court today.

Robert Beverly faced a Gaston county judge on Thursday on charges of attempted murder.

Beverly was very quiet in court the judge explaining everything to him in detail to make sure he was understanding the decision he was making.

He was noticeably less vocal in court than he had been when he was captured and arrested on Wednesday.

Officials spent hours searching car trunks on little mountain road in Gastonia. Eventually, Beverly was apprehended by a K-9 deputy nearby.

He was wanted for assault and attempted murder. York County deputies say he shot Victor Payne in the stomach Wednesday morning in Clover.

Payne is still in the hospital. His daughter tells FOX 46 that he has undergone multiple surgeries, and has only recently been able to recall what happened to him.

Beverly signed to waive his rights for extradition in court and was taken back to York County Thursday evening.
