Suspect in Burke Co. shooting arrested, vicitm identified

- The suspect in a Burke County shooting that injured one person has been found and arrested, according to the Burke County Sheriff's Office. 

David Arrex Burleson was found and arrested around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday after deputies received tips regarding his location on Hawkins Dr. in Morganton.

When deputies arrived Burleson was outside and ran into the woods. Deputies pursued him. Burleson finally stopped and was taken into custody. He was not armed.

Once in custody, officers noticed a powdery substance in Burleson's mouth and called Burke County EMS.

Officers’ noticed a powdery substance in Burleson’s mouth and requested Burke County EMS. Burleson was taken to Blue Ridge HealthCare Morganton where he is being treated for possibly ingesting a controlled substance.

Deputies are still with Burleson and when he is released from the hospital he will be served with an arrest warrant.

The victim of the Wednesday evening shooting has been identified as Scotty Everette Vess, 51. He's reportedly doing okay and may be released soon.
