Suspect in deadly Monroe shooting arrested

- The suspect in a Monroe shooting that left one person dead and three others injured has been taken into custody, according to Monroe Police. 

Monroe and Matthews police worked together to locate and arrest the shooting suspect,Torey Jermaine Brooks, 36 on Wednesday. He has been charged with  murder in connection to April's deadly shooting. 

Just after 3:00 a.m. on April 29 Monroe Police officers were called to the 1500 block of Massey Street Extension for an assault with a deadly weapon. 

Upon arrival, officers learned that 22-year-old David Tyrone Duncan had been shot and killed. Around the same time, three victims arrived at the Carolina HealthCare System Union with gunshot wounds.

Rene Lowery, 49, was treated and released from CHS Union. Joshua Robinson, 41, and Jessica Gibson, 26, were transported to CHS Main for treatment. Police soon learned that hte three had also been shot at Massey Street Extension, and an investigation was launched. 

Monroe Police with the assistance of State Bureau of Investigation gathered evidence to draw warrants on Brooks for first degree murder, three counts of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and possession of firearm by felon.

Brooks was found in Matthews after tips led investigators to his location.

“We are happy to have Mr. Brooks in custody and I want to thank the Matthews Police Department and all of our officers that have worked so diligently to make this arrest,” said Monroe Police Chief Bryan Gilliard.
