CHARLOTTE, NC (WJZY) - SWAT officers swarm a North Charlotte neighborhood after a man barricades himself in his home. Police surrounded a home on Hamilton circle near I-77 after the call came in: a man threatening to commit suicide with a gun.
Not long after officers arrived, the man barricaded himself inside his house and wouldn't come out. That’s when the SWAT team and negotiators were called to help diffuse the situation.
After a few hours, the man was still refusing to surrender. So the swat team took action and detonating a stun grenade and entered the home to take the man into custody.
Neighbors say that this is a quiet neighborhood and things like this just don't happen here but they are even more shocked that it happened in that home.
Residents tell FOX 46 Charlotte, that the family has been living there for about 20 years and that the man is a military veteran, who serves as a minister at a local church...
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department told FOX 46 Charlotte that the man wasn't harmed but he will be taken to a mental health facility where he will receive treatment.
