YORK, SC (FOX 46 WJZY) - It was a surprise that had her students just as excited as she was.
A teacher for 22 years, third grade Hunter Street Elementary School educator Kathy Sandifer is this week's Teacher Getting Results.
“I just love working w the kids and seeing them get excited about learning,” Ms. Sandifer told FOX 46.
“It's very exciting it makes me feel proud and I’m proud of my students because if it wasn't for their hard work,” Ms. Sandifer said.
Ms. Sandifer teaches these students beyond their years.
“I’m teaching them fourth, fifth and sixth grade things depending what they're ready for so they're not always just stuck with third grade.”
Not only does she make sure her third graders are ready for the next step, but she also makes learning fun.
“I like to award their behavior individual awards and popsicles every Friday and people say aren't you the third grade teacher who does popsicles so they look forward to that,” she said.
She's the kind of teacher who really takes time to know her students beyond what she sees them do inside the classroom.
“Very deserving of this. Ms Sandifer spends extra time at work, she's a wonderful person a good mom, wonderful to work on a team with willing to do anything you ask her to do. Always smiles no matter what,” said Principal Jane Wallace.
“She's fun and if I don't understand a question on a test or something she talks me through it,” one of her student’s told FOX 46.
“Well she's fun and she's nice,” said another.
And she wants her students leaving her classroom, with not only more wisdom, but more responsibility and respect for everyone and everything.
“I want them to have that love for learning and always wanting to learn more and being kind to each other,” Ms. Sandifer said.
Ms. Sandifer will be featured in the 8:00 a.m. hour of Good Day Charlotte on Thursday, April 26.
