Teen accused of attacking jail deputy with makeshift knife made from reading glasses

- A Mooresville teen is facing felony charges after attacking a jail deputy with a makeshift knife, authorities said.

According to the Iredell County Sheriff's Office, Hayden Nathanial Roland, 16, altered his prescription reading glasses into a makeshift knife. When the deputy called for Roland's cell to be opened, Roland reportedly charged at the officer and struck him in the upper chest. Fortunately the officer was not hurt and was able to subdue Roland.

Roland, who was being held on a misdemeanor damage to property charge, was charged with one count of Felony Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill, and Felony Possession of a Weapon by a Prisoner.

His bond was set at $250,000.
