The incident happened Wednesday afternoon, July 19 near Rozzelles Ferry and Beatties Ford Road. Mason was spotted by police driving a stolen black Honda Civic that was taken from an address on Sedgefiled Road the day before.

CMPD's chopper followed Mason as he headed northbound on I-85 before getting off at the Freedom Drive Exit and speeding down Berryhill Road. Mason got out of the stolen vehicle when he was stopped by a train on the tracks off of Freedom Drive. That's when he jumped onto the moving train, police said.

Mason was released from the Mecklenburg County Jail Monday night on bond.
