Thousands believe 'Steven Furtick signs $110M contract' posted on Christian satire website

- In a stunning move that is making waves throughout evangelicalism, Pastor Steven Furtick has announced he has come to an agreement with Lakewood Church to preach alongside Joel Osteen, forming the core of a “superstar preaching team.” - a satire website wrotesending the online community abuzz with hundreds of retweets and shares on social media.

The alleged contract was said to be worth $110 million over the next six years, making it the largest the preaching world has ever seen.

On Sunday evening, Elevation Church Pastor Steven Furtick took to Facebook to dispel the satire site's claim about him. He simply wrote above his video, "CONSIDER THE SOURCE."

On July 28, the Christian satire website Babylon Bee published an article claiming that Furtnick made a "professional athletics-style deal" to move to Lakewood Church alongside Joel Osteen. The Babylon Bee is a satire site whose humor is intended for Christian readers with a footer that clearly reads: The Babylon Bee is Your Trusted Source For Christian News Satire.

As clear as it might have been the story posted was "fake," the claim's spread led Furtick to publish a video on Facebook explaining the joke.

"We have to be careful. We're living in the age of information but we're starving for truth. And we can't believe everything we read and we certainly can't treat life like a middle school cafeteria," Furtick said in his Facebook video.
