Thousands in damage done to several Gastonia businesses

- Surveillance video from one Gastonia business caught vandals in the act, using a pellet gun to shatter the windows of the store.

“Right here's the car, see it, and watch the window. ‘Boom.’ There's the car, see the window, frost and frost.”

The owner of Badcock Furniture on E. Franklin Blvd. in Gastonia wanted video of the car driving by and blasting a BB gun into the windows of his store. He's not the only one who wants this footage out there.

“We would just like someone to get lucky and either catch these guys on video or DVR system,” Ronnie Cochran, the manager of Freeman's Car Stereo said.

Thousands of dollars in damage were done to five businesses in total.

“It is kind of scary that these people are doing it but we're kind of glad it's happening at night,” said Cochran.

Lidl Grocery, Precision Tune, Killingsworth, Badcock Furniture and Freeman's Car Stereo in Gastonia were all hit early Tuesday morning, along with a home on Union Rd.

“It could have been a whole lot worse because my bed's on the other side of the door, if it would have been a real gun it probably would have went through the bed,” homeowner Christopher Crawford said.

He believes his home may have been targeted by someone he recently traded vehicles with. FOX 46 asked him why they would hit the businesses, most of which are miles from his home.

“It was probably just a cover up,” Crawford said.

Whatever the reason, businesses want these vandals caught quickly.

“It makes us cringe because obviously we're worried about our building and personal safety," Cochran said.
