BURKE COUNTY, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - Three people will be charged in connection to a string of vehicle break-ins in Burke County, according to the sheriff's office.
The break-ins happened to unlocked vehicles in the area of Hopewell Road from June 27 through July 28, 2018 authorities said. The suspects were stealing miscellaneous items, including gas.
On Tuesday, July 24, around 4 p.m., a deputy was patrolling the area of Hopewell Road, near Denton's Chapel Church Road, when he noticed a vehicle parked on the side of the road. One of the suspects, Jessica Lynn Exline, was sitting in the driver’s seat.
Exline told the deputy she was out of gas and her friends went to get some fuel. While talking to Exline, Michael Denton Jr. and David Patrick Burhans walked up to the vehicle from different locations.
Denton and Burhans were arrested on unrelated charges, deputies said.
After conducting numerous interviews, and obtaining search warrants for two homes, warrants were issued on Burhans, Denton Jr., and Exline.
Exline and Denton have not been served at the time, deputies said. The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are expected. Anyone with any information regarding car break-ins in the Hopewell area is asked to call the Burke County Sheriff’s Office at (828) 438-5500.
