CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 WJZY) - CMPD says three people were hurt during a shooting on Mother's Day on Irma Street in the Lincoln Heights neighborhood of Charlotte. It was the latest in a rash of shootings across the Queen City over the weekend.
"Gun violence. It just doesn't make sense anymore. I am tired of it," said one neighbor on Irma Street who wished to remain anonymous.
There were bullet holes in nearby cars, evidence markers sprawled across the street and police tape surrounding several homes.
It's not the Mother's Day neighbors along Irma Street were expecting.
"Sad that someone's son has been shot on this Mother's Day," said neighbor, Mary Williams.
It was around 3:30 Sunday afternoon neighbors say they heard what sounded like a gun battle.
"I just heard gunshots and came outside and heard the ambulance and the police all down there on the corner," said Williams.
CMPD says three people were hurt with one being rushed to the hospital with life threatening injuries. Officers tell FOX 46 Charlotte that two other victims are expected to be ok.
Investigators focused their efforts Sunday afternoon on a grey house with several cars parked in the driveway. One of those cars was riddled with bullets.
On a typical Sunday afternoon neighbors say Irma Street is filled with kids playing, not police officers investigating a shooting.
"And it's just sad because I have kids out here. We need change in the city," said one neighbor.
CMPD says the suspects in this shooting are still on the run.
