CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The hit Broadway show Hamilton is coming to Charlotte this fall, and after just one day tickets have completely sold out.
Tickets were officially available for purchase at 8:00 a.m. on Wednesday, but many were showing up at 5:00 a.m., in person and online.
Debbie Davis was one of the lucky ones who went to Belk Theater in the early morning hours to get her ticket. Her number was picked and random and she was able to get four seats to the show.
"I’m taking my spouse, a great friend and her 92-year-old mother,” Davis said.
But many others walked away empty handed, both at the box office and online.
At one point, there were nearly 100,000 thousand fans logged onto the website, waiting anxiously in a virtual line, hoping to strike Hamilton gold.
"We've been waiting two years to see Hamilton,” one woman told FOX 46.
Tickets are already showing up on third party websites with some going for more than $1,000. The demand that is attracting scammers, and Blumenthal Performing Arts is warning buyers to beware.
First, there are no digital tickets for Hamilton. Tickets will be mailed or picked up at will call.
Second, tickets will be printed off after Labor Day. Any physical tickets available before that time are fake.
If you didn't get tickets this time around, take heart, you may get another shot at Hamilton magic in the coming weeks.
The team at Blumenthal is working to weed out those trying to resell tickets to brokers. Those tickets that are overpriced and bought will go back on the website in the next few weeks.
