KANNAPOLIS, NC (WJZY) - A portion of Interstate 85 southbound had to be shut down after a 4-vehicle crash Friday afternoon in Kannapolis.
According to Cabarrus County 911, the accident involved a tractor-trailer, a U-Haul truck and two other cars.
I-85 south was closed near Exit 60, Dale Earnhardt Blvd, according to NCDOT. Motorists were asked to take Exit 63 onto Lane Street. From Lane Street, turn left onto US-29 south which would take traffic back to I-85.
The south lanes were re-opened about 5 p.m., according to NCDOT.
On Thursday I-85 northbound was shut down for hours near Belmont after a tractor trailer flipped over the guard rail and landed in an embankment.
First responders spent close to four hours freeing the driver from the wreck. Emergency crews had to use two trucks to keep the rig from sliding further down the embankment. The driver had to have his leg amputated as a result of the crash, according to authorities.
