MOORESVILLE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A home on Royal Coach Ln. in Mooresville is barely visible, hidden by branches from a giant tree that uprooted in the backyard and crashed down on the roof causing severe damage.
"I haven't seen any other trees come down, a lot of limbs down and that kind of thing but not complete trees," homeowner Brad McConnell said.
The roof buckled under the weight of the tree, the chimney cracked and broke and bricks littered the Iredell County yard.
The homeowners tell FOX 46 the inside is worse. Two bathrooms were damaged and a wall buckled under pressure from the heavy rain that hit the Charlotte area on Thursday. Neighbors say 911 was called in when they started smelling gas.
"We have large trees behind our house, so I was worried about what may happen to us and of course what happened to the neighbors as well."
A next door neighbor said a tree fell on her house several years ago. Now, others living in the cul-de-sac say they're concerned about trees towering over their homes.
"We have had some conversation about having some of the really big ones taken down just for this very reason so, I’ll probably consider that a little more seriously."
First responders say everyone made it out safely.
