Tree crushes house, causes major problems for Gastonia family

- Our cameras got a close look at the extensive damage after a massive tree fell on a family's house and cars in Gastonia.

"If somebody would have been on that porch. They would have gotten crushed," said Zachary Bolch.

His wife, Krystal Bolch, says she and her three children were in a bedroom on the right side of the house when the tree came crashing down.

"I went through the front door, but we couldn't get through the front door. We went through the back. By time I got out, somebody had called the fire department."=

She says her youngest child - four-year-old Rhyleigh - grabbed her teddy bear as they rushed out of the house.

Zachary raced home when he got his wife’s call.

"By time I got here the whole street was full of firefighters and first responders. I had to park all the way down there and run up here through here and find everybody. Where's the kids? That's all I thought of. I knew somebody probably got hit or was on the front porch.”

He found his wife and three children safe and sound.

"Thankful we're all alive. It could have been worse," said Krystal.

The cleanup has just begun. Crews spent the day Tuesday clearing out downed power lines and tree limbs. The first steps in getting back to normal after Irma.

The three children are staying with their grandparents while their mom and dad take care of the house. Most of their belongings survived the storm.
