CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The trial for former UNC Charlotte quarterback Kevin Olsen, the brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen, begins this week.
Olsen is on trial accused of raping and assaulting his former girlfriend.
In 2017, Olsen was arrested for sending threatening messages to his then girlfriend after prosecutors said the two had been in uptown drinking. Olsen was also charged with assaulting and raping his then-girlfriend three times. Prosecutors said Olsen has a history of mental health and substance abuse issues.
Olsen has pleaded "100 percent not guilty" according to his attorney who turned down a prior plea deal, and told the judge that Olsen has stayed away from his ex-girlfriend.
The 23-year-old faces six charges that could land him decades behind bars if found guilty.
