Twin sister of murdered mom: He didn't have to take her

- Whitney King won’t get to have her first Mother’s Day. She was killed Thursday. Police say her boyfriend, Michael Brown, shot her in front of their six-month-old son.

“He didn’t have to take her. He doesn’t know what he did. He changed my life forever,” said Cortney King, Whitney’s twin sister.

Police say after Brown killed King, he abandoned the baby at their apartment on Point South Drive and drove to the police station in Steele Creek, where he reportedly confessed.

“It’s so hard that someone so selfish could take that away from her--celebrating Mother’s Day just two days away,” said Cortney.

Cortney says Brown’s family now has custody of the six-month-old.

She is crushed that her family doesn’t have custody, saying the baby is what will help her family get through the tragedy of losing her sister.

“I want her back, but that baby is what’s going to hold us together and get us through this is that baby boy,” Cortney said.

Cortney says her family is working to get custody of her young nephew, and she promises to tell him all about his mommy as he grows up.

“Know that I will keep her alive through me. He will not ever forget his mom. He will know her and how sweet she was and what type of person she was.”
