CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46) - Two people have been charged with murder after a man was shot to death at an apartment Thursday morning in south Charlotte, police said.
Jose Augusto Diaz-Garcia, 38, and Carlos Fernandez Rosales, 21, are charged with murder, armed robbery, conspiracy to commit armed robbery, and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. Both are being held at the Mecklenburg County Sheriff's Office.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement has a "detainer" on Rosales who is said to be in the U.S. illegally.
Officers say they received a call about 4:44 a.m. about an armed robbery in the 6600 block of Fishers Farm Lane, the Retreat Apartments at McAlpine Creek.
Neighbors shocked to see police surround their quiet neighborhood.
"I haven't seen any cop cars around here. Any emergency vehicles for that matter, so it was alarming to come out here and see all of the commotion," Andy Serketich, lives in The Retreat Apartments, said.
When police arrived, they say they found a man inside the apartment with an apparent gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead on scene by Medic.
The man has been identified as 24-year-old Frolian Trucios Perdoma.
"To hear that 'armed robbery,' in this apartment complex, it's kind of baffling," Joseph Heggins, live in the Retreat Apartments, said.
"I guess it just shows that it can happen anywhere which unfortunately is the kind of day we live in. It's going to be sad. Prayers to the family and everyone involved. It shouldn't happen," Serketich said.
Fox 46 Charlotte spoke with many who say they can't believe a gun was fired because they didn't hear anything.
"Very, Very shocking! We've lived here 2 years now and nothing of this sort has ever occurred. It’s always been quiet, family type neighborhood," Heggins said.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS and speak directly to a Homicide Unit Detective. Detective Rooks is the lead detective assigned to the case. The public can also call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
