Two dead after single-car crash in northeast Charlotte

- Two people died after their car ran off the road and struck a tree early Sunday morning in northeast Charlotte.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say Larry Lee Lockhart, Jr and Tabitha Denise Staton were pronounced deceased on scene by Medic after their car, a 2012 Dodge Challenger, ran off the right side of Hubbard Rd near Haybridge Rd, ran down an embankment and struck a tree around 1:40 am.

Police say that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, and that was a contributing factor to the crash. They are also investigating to see if alcohol was involved.
