CHARLOTTE, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - The United States Postal Service has suspended mail delivery to a troubled west Charlotte apartment complex.
USPS announced that it suspended mail service to Lake Arbor Apartments, beginning on Tuesday, July 31, "since the mailboxes are in poor condition and the security of the mail at the location cannot be guaranteed."
This comes during the same week that a FOX 46 Charlotte investigation uncovered apartment buildings there without power -- as well as mold, flooding, electrical and air conditioning issues and more.
The City of Charlotte is investigating a number of code enforcement violations.
"I wouldn't even recommend a homeless person to live here because it's not up to code," one person at Lake Arbor said.
USPS said "mailbox maintenance at the complex is the responsibility of the apartment owner/operator. Lake Arbor customers can pick up their mail between noon and 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday, at Yorkmont Station, 4800 Express Drive in Charlotte."
Lake Arbor apartment management drove away from the property, without comment, shortly after FOX 46's arrival on Thursday.
FOX 46 spoke with a number of residents at the property and all of them said they had not been made aware of the mail issues from management.
"There was no notification," one tenant said. "You basically find things out when you find things out."
