Victim in June moped vs car crash in north Charlotte dies

- A man who was seriously injured after the moped he was riding was struck by a car in north Charlotte in June has passed away as result of his injuries, police say.

On Friday, June 23, 2017, Metro Division officers were called to a hit and run call for service at Statesville Avenue and Norris Avenue.  Upon arrival, officers located a male lying in the roadway next to a moped with serious injuries. Medic transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center. Witnesses said a silver Mitsubishi Mirage struck the moped and left the scene upon striking the victim. 

The suspect vehicle was located a short distance away on Montreat Street and Norris Avenue unoccupied.  The suspect(s) fled the scene on foot and were not located. 

The victim, 67-year-old William Johnson Jr., died on Saturday, July 15, due to the injuries sustained during the crash.  His family has been notified of his death.
