Victim of Home Invasion Speak's Out

- Richard Bonds, 69, is having issues walking but he's thankful to still be alive.

Police say a gunman entered his Summit Ridge apartment and fired several rounds Tuesday night. Bonds was shot in the foot and the blood still stains the carpet where it happened. Some of the bullets landed in the kitchen, the couch and entered the apartment downstairs.

Police tell Fox 46 Charlotte, that no one else was injured.

Bonds said a man who lives in his apartment complex knew that he had recently returned from the bank. The suspect, Anson Carter, stopped by the apartment and started banging loudly on the door.

Bonds was caught off guard and retrieved his pistol for protection. Bonds said he recognized his neighbor so he let him in and offered him a drink. Three people were inside the apartment at the time when the suspect took Bond's gun and robbed him of money and jewelry on his wrist.

The suspect proceeded to take a woman's purse from the other victims in the apartment. Bonds says he does not plan on moving because this has been his home for more than a decade but he's glad the suspect has been captured.
