Waitress, single mother receives unbelievable tip on Cinco De Mayo

- The tip of a lifetime - at the very least the best tip of her shift.

That's how you might describe the payoff one waitress in Waxhaw received.

It all happened at Don Julio Mexican Restaurant Thursday on Cinco De Mayo, one of the busiest nights. It can be stressful for wait staff, but for one waitress she said it was a night she won't soon forget.

"When I am excited I get really loud," Ashleigh West said.

West said she's never been louder than she was on Thursday night during a long shift, severing dozens of customers.

Then one table of patrons, went above and beyond.

"I was just going along with my normal routine asking what they would like to drink," West explained.

Apparently that routine was top-notch in their eyes. The table left 18-year-old West, a single mother, with a tip she couldn't believe.

"After they left, they left me the exact amount of their tip as their bill was, so they doubled it," she said.

The tip totaled around $100.

West said the service was normal. But she did mention she liked the haircut on the man she was waiting on and wanted to take her young son to get a similar style.

That caught the attention of the customer.

"They wrote Happy Mothers Day on the receipt and I was freaking out. I had to look at the receipt so many times just to make sure it was correct," West explained.

The tip was correct. West has only been a waitress at the restaurant for two months, but has already had a day most would dream about.

"Somebody did that for a complete and total stranger from their heart. They didn't even know me but they decided to bless me," she said.

West said she plans to spend the money on her young son. She said most of what she makes in tips goes towards raising him.
