Whitewater Center July 4th events continue following nearby manhunt

- Despite a manhunt happening outside the U.S. National Whitewater Center, event goers still attended festivities for Independence Day.

“I think it's going to be a fun time even though it's kind of scary,” said a visitor.

At one point, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police had to temporarily close the trials at the center to search for the suspect involved in the attempted kidnapping of two joggers.

Several events happened at the center including fireworks and live music to celebrate the holiday.    

There was an increased law enforcement presence to keep guests safe.
