The fight against diabetes is a battle one Charlotte woman knows well.
Pat Higgins was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in the late 90's and says she didn’t even know she had it until a foot injury sent her to the doctor.
The diagnosis was scary at first, but Higgins says now she has learned to adjust her lifestyle.
The World Health Organization says the amount of people living with the disease has almost quadrupled since the 1980's and is now calling on governments around the world to take action.
In a new report, WHO is asking governments to increase prevention and treatment methods for the disease worldwide.
