CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) - Tuesday ended up being the very definition of ‘mixed precipitation’!
A mix of sleet and rain developed along the state line early in the morning, then lifted north into the Charlotte metro. Many of you reported steady sleet through the afternoon hours. By evening, heavy rain mixed with sleet continued to develop, with snow beginning in the mountains.
Areas of rain with some sleet mix will continue overnight through the Charlotte area and outside of the mountains. In the high country, it's a snow/sleet/freezing rain mix that will become more of an issue through Wednesday.
A Winter Storm Warning continues for Ashe, Avery, Watauga, along with the mountains of Burke & Caldwell counties. This is where 1-3" of snow could fall, along with some ice accumulation. Watch for slick roads and downed tree limbs. Power outages are possible, too.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for Rowan, Iredell, Alexander, Catawba, along with Greater Burke & Caldwell counties. A light icy glaze may develop here through Wednesday morning, mainly on elevated surfaces.
Any wintry precipitation will change to plain rain by Wednesday night and Thursday morning. More rounds of rain will develop Thursday, Friday, and through the weekend, leading to flooding in some areas.
