Woman charged for drug possession and failure to stop for police

- A woman who failed to stop for police Friday evening faces multiple charges, including drug possession.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police say they tried to stop a Lexus 300 that had an unreadable tag around 9:30 pm Friday on Independence Blvd. near Briar Creek Rd. The vehicle did not stop for police until reaching the intersection of Central Ave. & 7th St.

When officers approached the vehicle they smelled marijuana. The driver, Lameka Campbell, 30, refused to roll the window down and exit the vehicle. According to police, officers asked Campbell for close to 40 minutes to exit the car, but she still refused. Officers finally used a baton to bust the window and was able to take Campbell into custody.

Officers searched the vehicle and located 5.9 ounces of THC oil. When officers arrived at the jail a search was conducted and Campbell was found to be concealing an additional 6.4 grams of marijuana. She faces several charges including felony drug possession and failure to stop for police.
