Woman charged with DWI after hitting, killing man pushing bike in Matthews
MATTHEWS, NC (FOX 46 WJZY) - A woman is facing multiple charges, including DWI, after police said she struck and killed a man while he was pushing his bicycle along a road overnight in Matthews.
The deadly incident happened at 12:49 a.m. Wednesday, May 30 at the intersection of E. John Street and McKee Road.
Matthews police said Richard Oliver Angelo, 22, was pushing his bicycle eastbound on E. John Street when he was hit by a vehicle that was also traveling in the same direction. Angelo was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the vehicle, Sydney Joan Lindenmuth, 21, was arrested and charged with driving while impaired, possession of marijuana, and open container of alcohol.
Police said this remains an ongoing investigation and possible additional charges may be filed.
